Testimonials

Hopefully these testimonials will help you to understand a bit about my coaching and how this works for the runners who have trusted me with their running journey:

John, March 2026

For my fiftieth birthday, I set myself an audacious goal: complete the Chester 50 ultramarathon. This was particularly audacious/foolish considering a) I was a total non-runner, and b) the event was less than a year away.

I spent a couple of months training by piecing together random advice from the internet and hoping for the best. Trouble was, I had no idea what I was doing, so couldn’t tell if I was improving or not. So with 7 months to go, I got in touch with Martha…

Rather than handing me a generic training plan, she got to know me so she could build a training plan uniquely tailored to me – around my lifestyle, my work commitments, and my family life. Her personal approach not only made the training more enjoyable and sustainable (I didn’t suffer any injuries at all), it took away all the stress and guesswork.

As a complete beginner, I had tons of questions – about pacing, recovery, kit, fuelling, mindset. Martha was patient and it was great to be able to fire off a message or jump on a call and get a no-nonsense answer fast (rather than disappearing down YouTube rabbit holes for hours on end).

One bonus I didn’t expect was how powerful connecting with other runners in her group was. Martha’s built an amazing community of runners. And whether it’s sharing experiences or getting kit recommendations, there is always someone to learn from or cheer you on.

Seven months after training with Martha, I didn’t just finish my first ultramarathon – I came away with a silver medal. There is no way I could have done this without Martha in my corner. Her guidance and support gave me total confidence that I’d cross the finish line.

Martha coached me to my first 100k on relatively short notice, and her approach is very individual and flexible. Training is always tailored around my preferences, access to gym/resources, and how life looks week to week.

Something that I appreciate is that she is understanding when sessions need to be moved or missed, which makes the training realistic and sustainable. She’s also knowledgeable across areas like strength and nutrition, and happy to discuss anything that supports performance. I’m very happy to recommend Martha as an excellent run coach!

Lou, October 2025

After completing the Lakeland 50 a couple of times I was looking for a longer challenge, so I entered the 7 Valleys ultra. I’ve never trained purposely for an event before, I always just ran when I could and entered a long distance event or fell race each month. I knew for the 7V’s I needed a plan but having an active job (cleaner) and weekends not being an option generic plans just didn’t suit. Through Training Peaks I was put in touch with Martha and our training journey began.

From the introductory phone call I knew I’d made the right choice. I couldn’t have done it without Martha. Being accountable to a coach really worked for me. Martha kept me on track even when life threw me a curve ball which made training time really difficult, my training was adapted with understanding and empathy. The personal visits to the Lake District Martha organised for 7V’s recce’s, 1 to 1 coaching and group sessions were really special and such a great day spent on the fells. Martha was always available and nothing was too much trouble when I was having a wobble!!

When I did the 7V’s Martha’s support pre race and out on the course was really special and very much appreciated. Completing the course in the time I did was incredible and the weather conditions were not on my side. All the nutrition work we’d done payed dividends as I suffered with no nausea which was also a game changer. I felt strong throughout. Finishing 1st FV55!! 2nd FV50.
